Are you relying on email marketing campaigns to inform your customers about your deals and discounts this coming Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
If your answer’s yes, then you need as many of those emails as possible to land in your customers’ inboxes and NOT in their spam folders (or to be blocked entirely). Of course, avoiding the spam folder is only one hazard your emails face; they also need to cut through the noise and stand out against the umpteen other emails your customers will be receiving.
The successful arrival of an email in the receiver’s main email inbox is called the Deliverability Rate. A good email delivery rate is higher than 95% and is highly influenced by what’s termed as the Sender Score. This is determined by mailbox providers, whose job it is to automatically filter spam, achieved by reviewing a Sender’s Reputation. Basically, when you’re a good sender, more of your emails get sent directly to inboxes.
Q: How do you ensure a high Deliverability Rate?
A: You need to convince spam filters and email firewalls that your email is RELEVANT and that the recipient WANTS to receive your email. Simple?
Here are our Top 5 Tips:
1. Engagement levels – Segment and personalise your subscriber list to maximise your open and click through rates. Segmenting your list will also help to engage potential customers further along their buying journey and increase the likelihood of conversion.
2. Content – Encourage your audience to engage with your emails with enticing subject lines (in this case your offers), but check they are not going to trigger spam filters and don’t stray too far from the content and design that your audience already associates with your brand.
3. Consistency – keep volume and frequency levels around the same level. If you suddenly increase your usual metrics, the ISPs will be on high alert. So if you intend on sending Black Friday offers to a higher than usual volume of subscribers and with increased frequency, then build up slowly.
4. Clean your list – Reduce your bounce rate by ensuring only subscribers who have opted in receive your emails. If your emails are delivered and the recipients mark them as spam, the more likely other emails will go to spam folders. Make sure every email you send contains an unsubscribe link and your contact details.
5. Set up SPF, DKIM and DMARC email authentication tools for your domain. They help prevent spammers and phishers from sending emails on behalf of a domain they do not own. Email authentication allows ISPs to decide whether or not to deliver your emails and non-compliance with the latest email authentication protocols could have a hugely negative impact on your email Deliverability Rate.
